Minnesota Vikings punter Chris Kluwe on
Friday called for the repeal of constitutional gay marriage bans in
31 states.
Appearing on the Stephanie Miller
Show, Miller thanked Kluwe, most likely the NFL's most supportive
player on the issue of marriage equality, for advocating against a
proposed ban in Minnesota which failed Tuesday at the polls.
“I have to tell you, I know so many
people have thanked you, but you have had such a big part in that
because I think … those are the moments when people go, 'Oh my
favorite football player,' 'My favorite this or that,'” Millers
said. “And again the fact that you're a straight ally. And you're
somebody who has no compunction about just standing up for what's
right in what is considered this very macho sport, right?”
“Ideally, we get to a point where we
don't have to have a single person talking out because everyone is
talking out. … It shouldn't be news when someone speaks out for
equality, it should be news when someone speaks out against it,”
Kluwe answered.
Later, Kluwe said such bans in other
states needed to be repealed. (The video is embedded on this page.
