Singer Lady Gaga on Friday released a
video calling on voters to support gay marriage.
“Hey everybody,” Lady Gaga says in
the 30-second video. “I just wanted to remind those of you who
live in Maine, Minnesota, Washington and Maryland that you can
actually vote for marriage equality on the ballot this year.” (The
video is embedded on this page. Visit
our video library for more videos.)
In Maryland and Washington state,
voters are being asked to allow marriage laws approved by lawmakers
to take effect. Minnesotans are considering whether to approve a
constitutional amendment which would limit marriage to heterosexual
couples. And Maine's referendum would grant marriage rights to gay
and lesbian couples.
“No one speaks more to young people
than Lady Gaga,” said
Brian Ellner, a co-founder of The
Four, the marriage equality social media campaign behind the
video. “And they support equality more than any other group. If
we are going to win and make marriage equality history on Tuesday in
all four states, we need young people to get out and vote in record
numbers.”
Lady Gaga strongly backed repeal of
“Don't Ask, Don't Tell,” and her Born This Way Foundation works
to end bullying in schools.
