With less than a week before voters
decide on Question 1, supporters on Tuesday released an ad featuring
a young man talking about his two-mom family.
In the 30-second ad released by Mainers
United for Marriage, the largest group working to pass the ballot
question, Brian Arsenault says his moms' relationship inspires him.
“When I do meet a girl and fall in
love and settle down and get married, I want the relationship between
me and my wife to be the same as it is between my moms,” Arsenault
says in the ad. “I just hope that my moms and all other committed
couples get the chance to stand up and get married.” (The video is

The ad is part of a last-minute barrage
of pitches for and against the measure, which if approved, would make
Maine the first state in the nation to legalize gay nuptials by
referendum.
The issue is also on the ballot in
Minnesota, Maryland and Washington state.
In Maryland and Washington, voters are
being asked to either uphold or reject a marriage law approved by
lawmakers. Minnesotans will decide on a constitutional amendment
defining marriage as a heterosexual union.
