Country music singer Chely Wright's
first LikeMe Lighthouse LGBT center in Kansas City is having a
positive impact.
Wright was on hand at the center's
grand opening in March.
The center includes an LGBT library, a
meeting space and conference rooms. Services such as suicide
prevention and STD testing are also offered.
“This just gives so much hope to
these outlying areas, that your major metropolitan area has a gay and
lesbian center,” Wright said during an appearance on MSNBC. “That
would have meant everything to me had I been a kid growing up in
Wellsville, knowing that there is a beautiful facility in our major
city, that that was OK.”

LikeMe Lighthouse Executive Director
Charlene Daniels recently told KMBZ radio that the community has
embraced the center.
“I thought at first that we'd open
up, we'd have a quiet time and then we'd gear up as we went along. I
was wrong, the day we opened we were busy and we've been busy every
day since then,” Daniels
said.
