First Lady Michelle Obama will speak
Wednesday at a luncheon hosted by several national and local gay
rights groups at the 2012 Democratic National Convention (DNC) in
Charlotte, North Carolina.
The White House announced the
appearance on Sunday.
The first lady is scheduled to speak at
12:40PM at the event, which is sponsored by the Human Rights
Campaign, National Stonewall Democrats, the National Gay &
Lesbian Victory Fund, Equality North Carolina and the DNC's LGBT
caucus.
Jerame Davis, executive director of
National Stonewall Democrats, confirmed the appearance in an e-mail
to On Top Magazine.
“Michelle Obama is an inspiring and
amazing woman and we couldn't ask for a speaker who is more
supportive of our issues,” Davis told qnotes.
“As the president himself said when he came out in favor of the
freedom to marry, his family – including his daughters and the
first lady – played a pivotal role in pushing him toward speaking
out for marriage equality.”
Davis told On Top Magazine that
he expects the first lady to discuss the president's record on LGBT
rights.
