Yoko Ono and Sean Lennon believe John
Lennon would have supported gay marriage.
In an interview with cabler HLN, Ono,
the widow of John Lennon, said she could not believe that marriage
equality was even an issue.
“I can't believe it,” Ono said.
“And if John was here he would have been very angry.”
“I do think he would have been
surprised,” added
Sean Lennon, John Lennon's son. “Just from seeing what his
vision – he was very optimistic about, you know, people awakening.”
Singer-songwriter John Lennon, a
founding member of the Beatles, was murdered in 1980. He and wife
Ono often combined advocacy with performance, protesting the Vietnam
War with iconic songs such as Give Peace a Chance and Imagine.
Ono and Sean Lennon recently joined
Beatles members Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr to create the group Artists
Against Fracking to oppose hydraulic fracking.
