ABC Family has green-lit a series pilot
for the lesbian-themed comedy-drama The Fosters being
developed by Jennifer Lopez and Peter Paige.
ABC Family announced its decision on
Thursday.
Lopez and Paige will executive produce
the series. Lopez will also appear on the show as a guest star.
The drama centers on a lesbian couple
who are coping with raising three children when a wayward teenage
girl moves in. One of the women is a police officer, the other a
private school teacher. Together they are raising a biological son
and adopted teen twins of opposite sexes.
Paige and Brad Bredeweg, the creators
and writers of the show, will share executive producer credits with
Simon Fields, Lopez's partner at Nuyorican Productions, and Greg
Gugliotta, according to Deadline
Hollywood.
Paige is best know for his role as
Emmett Honeycutt on Showtime's groundbreaking gay drama Queer as
Folk. His debut as director and writer was on the 2005 film Say
Uncle.
