Former Boston Bruins goaltender Tim
Thomas has come out in support of Chick-Fil-A, saying he doesn't
believe the company president's recent comments to be anti-gay.
Thomas made his remarks in a Facebook
post.
“I stand with Chick-fil-A,” the MVP
of the 2011 Stanley Cup Finals wrote.
“Chick-Fil-A is privately owned by
the Cathy family. The company president, Dan Cathy, drew the wrath
of gay rights advocates and supporters when he made recent statements
that some have alleged are anti-gay,” Thomas
added.
Chick-Fil-A President Dan Cathy
unleashed a firestorm of controversy when he said gay marriage is
“inviting God's judgment on our nation.” He pivoted
in a subsequent interview, insisting “we don't have an anti-gay
or anti-anything policy or attitude toward anybody that's out there.”
Between 2003 and 2010, Chick-Fil-A gave nearly $5 million to groups
opposed to gay rights, according to Equality
Matters.
