Former Braves' closer John Rocker disagrees with Mitt Romney on gay marriage.

Rocker has moved from sports to politics; he now pens a column for conservative site World Net Daily.

He was made infamous when he went on a xenophobic and homophobic rant in a 1999 interview with Sports Illustrated.

“Imagine having to take the [Number] 7 train to the ballpark, looking like you're [riding through] Beirut next to some kid with purple hair next to some queer with AIDS right next to some dude who just got out of jail for the fourth time right next to some 20-year-old mom with four kids. It's depressing,” he was quoted as saying when asked about New York City.

In a recent CNN interview, Rocker said he “regrets the homophobic comment.”

“Everything else was just kinda what I saw, man,” he told anchor Don Lemon.

And in a POLITICO.com profile, the 37-year-old Rocker said he backs Mitt Romney for president but disagrees with him on social issues.

“I do agree with Romney on his fiscal track record,” he said. But on “social issues, his foreign policy issues, I think the verdict and the jury is still out on that.”

Rocker added on gay marriage: “Am I someone that thinks that I have the right to sit back and judge someone that I don't know, will never meet, on how they should live their life or what rights they can have to live their life the way they want to? I don't think I deserve that responsibility.”
