DC Comics' hero Green Lantern proposes
marriage to his boyfriend in comic book Earth 2.
The proposal comes after gay superhero
Northstar
married his boyfriend in Astonishing X-Men No. 51 and
Archie's gay character Kevin
Keller married his husband in the January issue (#16) of Life
with Archie.
Social
conservatives have criticized the increasing number of gay characters
in comic books.
“This is
ridiculous!” the Christian conservative group One
Million Moms said. “Why do adult gay men need comic
superheroes as role models? They don't but do want to indoctrinate
impressive young minds by placing these gay characters on pedestals
in a positive light.”
Alan Scott (the Green Lantern) is
revealed to be gay in the debut issue of Earth 2.
In the second installment of the comic
book, Alan Scott proposes marriage to his boyfriend Sam.
“I love you, Sam. I'm crazy about
you. Marry me so we can …,” an emotional Alan Scott proposes as
he holds a ring.
The book's final frame, however, shows
the bullet train transporting the couple exploding.
SPOILER ALERT. According to
ComicBook.com,
Sam does not survive the explosion and a heartbroken Alan Scott is
left alone.
“Of course, it is comic books, where
people don't always stay dead, so who knows what the future may
hold,” the site wrote.
