Financial whiz Suze Orman devotes an
upcoming episode of her show to the financial ramifications for gay
couples who cannot get married.
The 61-year-old Orman gets personal in
introducing the topic, saying she pays more taxes than most yet
cannot legally marry her longterm partner Kathy Travis, whom she
often refers to simply as KT.
“Here I sit in front of you, a
61-year-old woman who has been gay my entire life. Who has been in a
committed relationship for the past 12 years, and I will die in this
relationship. A woman who pays more taxes than most, that is a
contributing member of the economy in more ways than most. Yet I am
not treated equally. So I am asking all of you to join in with this
fight, so to speak, we have. Marriage equality, the ability to get
married should be a right for every single person in the United
States of America, regardless of their sexual orientation,” Orman
told viewers.
Orman and Travis married in 2010 in
South Africa. However, their marriage is only recognized in New
York, one of three states where the couple resides, the other two
being Florida and California.
The episode, simply titled Marriage
Equality, premieres Saturday at 9PM on cabler CNBC.
