Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick
and senate candidate Elizabeth Warren will lead a group of supporters
of President Barack Obama at Boston Gay Pride on Saturday.
The AP reported that Warren, Patrick
and the Obama for America volunteers will gather on Boylston Street
between Dartmouth and Clarendon Streets before the noon kick off of
the 42nd annual parade.
Patrick, a national co-chair for the
Obama campaign, and Warren are strong supporters of gay rights,
including equal marriage rights for gay and lesbian couples.
“Marriage equality is morally right,”
Warren
said in March.
The Democratic contingent has plenty to
celebrate. Last month, Obama became the first sitting president to
endorse marriage equality. Three legal victories followed. Two
found the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), which bars the federal
government from recognizing the legal marriages of gay coupes, to be
unconstitutional. Another upheld a lower court's ruling which found
that Proposition 8, California's gay marriage ban, violates the
constitutional rights of gay couples who wish to marry in the state.
