Singer-guitarist Laura Jane Grace,
formerly Tommy Gabel, of Against Me! performed for the first time
Friday since coming out transgender, Rolling
Stone reported.
The four member band performed at
Humphreys Concerts by the Bay in San Diego, playing new material
including the title track from their upcoming album Transgender
Dysphoria Blues.
“I was worried that some people
expected me to come out looking like Little Bo Peep or something,”
Grace told the music glossy.
Grace, who is two weeks into hormone
replacement therapy, announced plans to transition and remain married
to wife Heather in the pages of Rolling Stone.
“For me, the most terrifying thing
about this was how she would accept the news. But she's
super-amazing and understanding,” Grace said earlier this month.
Heather and toddler daughter Evelyn
were present at the concert to support Grace.
“She did it for herself, not for
anybody else. This is about her,” longtime fan Jimmy Gomez told
the magazine. “She's doing something she really loves now and
she's really happy – that's really awesome.”
