Jo Ann Nardelli, a Democratic party
activist from Pennsylvania, has resigned from the PA Democratic party
citing President Barack Obama's public support for gay marriage,
PoliticsPA.com
reported.
Obama made his historic announcement
earlier this month in an interview with ABC News' Robin Roberts.
“I respect all of you and all that I
have achieved in the past,” Nardelli wrote in her resignation
letter. “Due to personal matters and faith beliefs at this time,
it is only fair to resign. I will miss you all very much as you are
all a part of my family; however, it is time to move forward with my
life in a direction that is more in line with my faith.”
Nardelli, a Catholic, announced her
resignation at a press conference on Wednesday. According to Blair
County GOP Chair A.C. Stickel, she cited the president's support for
marriage equality.
She endorsed Mitt Romney's bid for the
White House and changed her voter registration at the press
conference.
Nardelli was an active Democrat for two
decades and organized local events in support of the Obama campaign.
