MSNBC host Rachel Maddow has labeled
Mitt Romney's president campaign “queer” and urged the candidate
to “get used to it.”
On her The Rachel Maddow Show,
Maddow said a number of events were forcing Romney to speak out on
gay rights.
“I'm pretty sure this has been the
gayest week in Mitt Romney's whole life,” Maddow told viewers
before running down a list of gay-related news items, including Vice
President Joe Biden's remarks on gay marriage on Meet the Press,
passage
of a gay marriage ban in North Carolina, President
Obama coming out in favor of gay nuptials on ABC News, a The
Washington Post piece on Romney
bullying a gay student in high school, a GQ story on a
Romney aide gleefully ending the political career of a Massachusetts
state representative by outing her as transgender, and Romney
giving the commencement speech at Christian conservative Liberty
University.
“You know how some days are
red-letter days on the calendar? This has been a rainbow-lettered
week in the campaign to elect Mitt Romney president of the United
States,” Maddow said.
“Mr. Romney, I'm sure you didn't
think it would work out like this but this is your campaign now.
It's here, it's queer, get used to it,” she added. (The video is
