Mitt Romney on Saturday reiterated his
opposition to gay marriage just days after President Barack Obama
endorsed the institution.
Romney on Saturday addressed the 2012
graduating class at conservative Christian Liberty University, which
was founded by the late preacher Jerry Falwell.
“Culture – what you believe, what
you value, how you live – matters,” Romney told graduates. “Now
as fundamental as these principles are, they may become topics of
Democratic debate from time to time. So it is today with the
enduring institution of marriage.”
“Marriage is a relationship between
one man and one woman,” he added to rousing applause from those
gathered in the school's football stadium in Lynchburg, Virginia.
Romney later added: “The American
culture promotes personal responsibility, the dignity of work, the
values of education, the merit of service, devotion to a purpose
greater than self, and at the foundation, the preeminence of the
family.” (The video is embedded in the right panel of this page.

The announcement that Romney, a Mormon,
