Responding to President Barack Obama's
Wednesday announcement in support of gay marriage, Mitt Romney
reiterated his opposition.
Obama
told ABC News' Robin Roberts: “I've concluded that for me
personally it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think
same sex couples should be able to get married.”
The president had previously said he
supported civil unions and was “evolving” on marriage for gay
couples.
At a press conference in Oklahoma,
presumed GOP nominee Romney reacted to Obama's historic endorsement.
“My view is that marriage itself is a
relationship between a man and a woman, and that's my own preference.
I know other people have differing views,” said Romney.
When asked if he thought Obama had
flip-flopped on the issue, Romney calmly responded: “You're a
better judge of that than I.”
“If that's the case,” he added,
“you'll be able to make that determination on your own.” (The
