Lady Gaga's support for gay rights is
being protested as the singer kicks off her Born This Way Ball Global
Tour in Seoul, South Korea.
Lady Gaga arrived in South Korea on
Friday, a week before she takes to the stage at Seoul's Olympic
Stadium.
According to the AFP, roughly 300
Christian conservatives are expected at a rally in downtown Seoul on
Sunday night to pray for God's intervention against Lady Gaga's show.
“We will pray to God that the concert
will not be realized so that homosexuality and pornography will not
spread around the world,” said Kang Ju-Hyun, who helms the group
Alliance for Sound Culture in Sexuality.
Kang's group last week distributed
banners accusing the singer of “spreading unhealthy sexual culture”
through “lewd lyrics and performances.”
The show initially received an age
rating of 12 and older from government officials, but pressure from
conservatives prompted the Korea Media Rating Board to ban anyone
under 18 from attending the concert.
The singer is an outspoken advocate of
gay rights, including the right to marry for gay and lesbian couples
and the right to serve openly in the U.S. military for gay and
bisexual troops.
Lady Gaga will also perform in Hong
Kong, Japan, Taiwan and the Philippines before heading to Europe.
