If you've been looking for a reason to
visit Cleveland, OH in March, then the Cleveland International Film
Festival might be your ticket.
The 2008 festival will screen 130
feature films at Tower City Center. Organizers have included a “10%
Cinema” of GLBT themed films.
A hunk of a real estate agent follows
his dream to gentrify Chuecatown in Juan Flahn's Boystown. Victor
overcomes obstacles in his quest to gentrify Madrid's chic Chuecatown
with upwardly mobile gay couples by knocking off old grannies and
seducing men. Loosely based on a Spanish comic book.
A Four Letter Word
brings together the lives of four Manhattanites working in a sex shop
as they attempt to unravel the mysteries of love. Casper Andreas'
romantic comedy finds four employees asking questions about love,
monogamy, and commitment in a modern world.
Dr.
Finn Jefferies re-discovers a bond with daughter Zelly after the
death of her partner in Laurie Colbert's Finn's Girl.
Finn's Girl is not so much about
sexuality, but rather the difficulties of a mother-daughter
relationship.
Documentary
filmmaker Nitzan Gilady brings us an accounting of explosive events
during the summer of 2006 in Jerusalem when the city attempted to
host their first-ever series of World Pride events and gay pride
parade in Jerusalem Is Proud To Present.
A
telemarketer tries to cut ties with his on-again-off-again boyfriend
as he struggles with heroin addiction in Rosser Goodman's Holding
Trevor. Trevor has been trying
for years to walk away from heroin addicted Darrell. After meeting
handsome Ephram, he finally seems ready to leave his past behind, but
something seems to be holding Trevor back.
Gwen
Haworth's autobiographical film, She's A Boy I Knew,
documents her gender re-assignment from Steven, an athletic hockey
player and husband, to Gwen.
Finding
oneself and coming out issues are explored in Jonah Markowitz's
Shelter. Zach is in a
dead-end fry cook job when he meets Shaun. Despite being warned that
Shaun is gay, Zach pursues a friendship. The pair bond while surfing
the waves of Southern California and soon Zach starts to realize who
he really is.
The
32nd
Cleveland International Film Festival runs March 6 – 16.
