Director Brett Ratner has said
something positive has come out of last year's incident in which he
used an anti-gay slur.
The comments come just four months
after Ratner stepped down as producer of this year's Oscars over the
incident.
Ratner said during a Q&A following
a screening of his latest film, Tower Heist, that “rehearsing
is for fags.” He apologized for the remark and resigned as
producer of the annual awards show.
Last month, Ratner announced he has
teamed up with the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation
(GLAAD) to produce and direct a gay rights video campaign.
“I knew that something positive was
going to come out of it,” Ratner told E!
Online. “It was unfortunate. But I'm happy to turn a negative
into a positive, which is what always happens.”
Ratner is also organizing a contest for
the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network (GLSEN).
“We're going to have a bunch of
filmmakers create PSAs about words that are not good to say,”
Ratner explained. “Then I'm going to present the winner with an
award at GLSEN's Respect Awards.”
