Conservative radio host Michael Berry
has been accused of fleeing the scene of a car crash outside a gay
Berry, a former three-term Houston
councilman, is accused of crashing into another car outside T.C.'s
Show Bar. He reportedly drove his SUV more than 70 feet in reverse
before hitting the car of Tuderia Bennett, a bouncer at the bar.
Bennett told police that he saw Berry
leave the club, watched the crash happen and could positively
identify Berry as the driver of the vehicle. He also gave police the
license plate number from the car.
“I said, 'That's definitely the guy.'
For sure, 100 percent,” said Bennett.
Managers of the bar provided video
surveillance footage to the police that shows Berry inside the club
around the time of the January 31 incident.
In the video, Berry is seen ordering a
beer and twice walking down a hall to the restroom.
Prosecutors from the Harris County
District Attorney's Office have refused to file hit-and-run charges
against Berry. They say no one could positively identify Berry as
Berry, a supporter of Rick Santorum's
presidential aspirations, alluded to the controversy during his
Thursday radio show, but has not denied the claims.
“You simply cannot go out there and
chase down every nasty thing that is said about you,” he said.
