If two-time Olympian Johnny Weir gets
his way, Lady Gaga and Sarah Jessica Parker will participate in his
upcoming wedding to Victor Voronov.
Weir, who has returned to competitive
figure skating, and 28-year-old Atlanta-area lawyer Voronov capped
off 2011 by tying the knot in a civil ceremony at the New York City
Courthouse.
The 27-year-old Weir has told New
York's Daily
News that he has pushed back plans for a big summer wedding
in favor of a winter wonderland reception.
The pair are “now looking at winter
because we might try to incorporate figure skating” into the
wedding's “snow, sparkly white and Russian” theme.
Weir said his ultimate dream would be
to have friend Sarah Jessica Parker officiate the ceremony and for
Lady Gaga to perform as he delivers a “special performance” on
ice.
Weir earlier told gay blog Queerty.com
that he was hopeful his marriage would nudge President Barack Obama,
who supports civil unions for gay couples, to endorse marriage for
gay couples.
“I hope that Obama can see how
healthy a relationship young people like myself can have and that he
can push it through on the federal level for every state,” Weir
said.
