Kelly Clarkson, the first American
Idol winner, insists that she would acknowledge that she is a
lesbian, if she were.
The 29-year-old Clarkson told UK's Now
Magazine: “People are really concerned about my
relationship status.”
“When I tell people I'm happy being
single, they don't believe me. They say, 'You have to be miserable
being alone.'”
Clarkson denied rumors that she's a
lesbian: “I'm not gay. If I was, I'd say, 'I love women!'”
“That's why it drives me nuts. But I
feel like even if I did say it, people would be like, 'You're just
trying to do that to win the gay audience.'”
During an appearance last year on ABC's
The View, Clarkson said people think she's gay because she has
yet to marry.
“I'm from a small town so, like,
everyone's married with children or about to have children,” she
said. “So it's a little hard when you go home and people are like —
and that's why people think I'm gay – because they're like ‘Why
aren't you married?’ And I'm like, 'It doesn't happen for everyone
right off the bat.'”
Clarkson's current single Stronger
(What Doesn't Kill You) from her fifth studio album of the
same name is out now.
