Former GOP presidential candidate
Michele Bachmann has criticized a federal court's ruling which found
Proposition 8, California's gay marriage ban, unconstitutional.
The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals on
Tuesday upheld a lower court's 2010 decision which found the 2008
voter-approved amendment to violate the constitutional rights of gay
and lesbian couples who wish to marry in the state.
“The people of the state of
California have the right to vote on the laws that they living
under,” Bachmann told The
Huffington Post.
“They made a vote in 2008. That's
when Barack Obama was running for president. And it's amazing,
really, what a decisive outcome it was, so it's interesting, that now
you find federal judges trying to undermine the will of the people.
That's what federalism is about, and that's why you'll see this case
go to the Supreme Court.”
Bachmann spoke to the online outlet
after addressing the annual Conservative Political Action Conference
(CPAC) in Washington D.C. on Thursday.
Remaining candidates Mitt
Romney, Rick
Santorum and Newt
Gingrich have also criticized the ruling.
