Drag icon RuPaul has said he loves the
word “tranny.”
RuPaul will return to host the fourth
season of RuPaul's Drag Race January 30 on all-gay cabler
Logo.
In an interview with the Huffington
Post and SiriusXM OutQ radio, RuPaul weighed in on the
controversy surrounding the ABC sitcom Work It and the use of
the word “tranny.”
ABC on Friday announced
that it had canceled the show, which featured two men who dress
as women to get a job, after only two outings. The Human Rights
Campaign (HRC), the nation's largest gay rights advocate, and the Gay
and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) had criticized the
show, saying it reinforced mistaken stereotypes about transgender
people.
“Don't take life so seriously,”
RuPaul commented. “We live in a culture where everyone is offended
by everything.”
On singer Lance Bass' recent use of the
word “tranny” and his
subsequent apology, RuPaul said: “It's ridiculous! It's
ridiculous! … I love the word 'tranny.' … And I hate the fact
that he's apologized. I wish he would have said, 'Fuck you, tranny
jerk!'”
