House Majority Leader Eric Cantor's
wife of 22 years, Diana Fine Cantor, supports gay marriage.
Mrs. Cantor spoke out on the issue
during an interview broadcast Sunday on CBS' 60 Minutes.
Correspondent Lesley Stahl noted that
Mrs. Cantor and her mother are liberal Democrats who converted to the
Republican party but whose beliefs do not always line up with those
of the Virginia representative.
When Stahl asked, “So, you're
pro-choice,” Mrs. Cantor answered, “I am,” and nodded in the
affirmative when asked, “Gay marriage?”
“What does that mean? You disagree
with him?” Stahl asked.
“I do disagree,” Mrs. Cantor
replied. (The video is embedded in the right panel of this page.

Gay rights blog GoodAsYou.org
notes that Mrs. Cantor is the latest GOP spouse to come out in favor
of marriage equality.
Also in favor are Laura
Bush, wife of former President George W. Bush, and Cindy McCain,
wife of Arizona Senator John McCain.
After President Barack Obama instructed
the Department of Justice to no longer defend the Defense of Marriage
Act (DOMA), which bars federal agencies from recognizing the legal
marriages of gay couples, the Republican-led House decided it would
intervene to defend the law in court.
