Rick Santorum on Friday was glitter
bombed by a male activist, the AP reported.
“Stop the hate!” the unnamed
activist yelled. “Taste the rainbow!” (The video is embedded in
the right panel of this page. Visit
our video library for more videos.)
The incident occurred as Santorum
arrived at his final campaign event in Johnston, Iowa. Polls show
Santorum surging just days before the Iowa caucuses are set to take
place.
Santorum joins GOP rivals Newt Gingrich
and Michele Bachmann in being showered with glitter at a public
event. Former Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty was also glitter
bombed but has since dropped out of the race.
Previous incidents have been linked to
gay rights.
Activist Rachel E. B. Lang's glittering
of Bachmann during a stop in Minneapolis was a direct protest
against her support for a proposed constitutional amendment that
would ban gay marriage in the state. “Keep your hate out of our
constitution!” Lang yelled.
Gingrich
was hit with glitter during a book signing event in Minneapolis.
“Feel the rainbow,” activist Nick
Espinosa yelled as he doused Gingrich with glitter. “Stop the
hate. Stop the anti-gay politics. It's dividing our country and
it's not fixing our country.”
