Darren Criss, who plays out-and-proud
gay student Blaine Anderson on the Fox musical-comedy Glee,
will appear at a Broadway fundraiser to support gay teens and AIDS
research, Playbill.com
reported.
Criss' December 17 guest appearance in
Sing Out, Raise Hope at the Starr Theater located inside the
Alice Tully Hall will take place before his January
Broadway debut in the musical How to Succeed in Business
Without Really Trying.
The event will raise funds for The
Trevor Project, the leading nationwide organization providing crisis
intervention and suicide prevention services to gay, lesbian,
bisexual, transgender and questioning youth, and the Elizabeth Glaser
Pediatric AIDS Foundation, the leading organization raising funds to
eradicate pediatric AIDS through research and awareness.
Criss recently told Variety that
his work with The Trevor Project is a perfect fit.
“After gaining the incredible
platform from Glee, it wasn't so much of a decision to get
involved as it was an opportunity to take part,” Criss said. “I'll
be honest, I'm not so much into the idea of one cause being more
important than another; however, I felt that The Trevor Project was a
perfect fit for my efforts. It stands for a lot of things that I
believe in, as well as falls in line with much of what Glee
stands for.”
