Playwright Katori Hall Joins HRC's Gay Marriage Campaign

Playwright Katori Hall has joined the Human Rights Campaign's (HRC) Americans for Marriage Equality campaign.

The Memphis, Tennessee-based playwright is best known for her hit play The Mountaintop, a fictional account of Reverend Martin Luther King's last night on Earth before his April 4, 1968 assassination.

“One of my favorite Dr. King quotes is, 'Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere,'” the 30-year-old Hall says in her 30-second video.

The Mountaintop debuted on Lodon's West End, where it earned Hall the Olivier Award for Best New Play. Samuel L. Jackson and Angela Bassett star in the play's Broadway run.

“Katori Hall has spend much of her career promoting the idea that all people are created equal,” said HRC President Joe Solmonese. “Her support of marriage equality is in line with the majority of Americans who support committed same-sex couples getting married.”
