Happy Endings star Adam Pally
has created a spoof of Brett Ratner's apology to the gay community.
Ratner, the director of the upcoming
movie Tower Heist, was criticized for saying during a Q&A
following a recent screening of his film that “rehearsing is for
fags.”
When the 42-year-old director's apology
failed to mollify critics – the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against
Defamation (GLAAD) called the apology “insufficient” – Ratner
resigned as producer of the 84th annual Academy Awards.
“So many artists and craftspeople in
our business are members of the LGBT community, and it pains me
deeply that I may have hurt them,” Ratner said in a statement. “I
should have known this all along, but at least I know it now: words
do matter. Having love in your heart doesn't count for much if what
comes out of your mouth is ugly and bigoted.”
Pally, who plays Max, a
non-stereotypical gay character on ABC's Happy
Endings, suggests in his Funny or Die video
lampooning Ratner's apology that the director is obsessed with gay
folks.
“Look, I don't know why I said the
word faggot. It just popped into my head. It's weird. It's like
anytime I need a word, the first thing that pops into Brett Ratner's
head is the word faggot,” Pally, playing Ratner, screams in the
2-minute video. (The video is embedded in the right panel of this
page.)
