Armie Hammer, who plays Clyde Tolson,
FBI boss J. Edgar Hoover's alleged lover in the Clint
Eastwood-directed J. Edgar, says kissing Leonardo DiCaprio in
the movie was like kissing.
DiCaprio, who stars as Hoover in the
period drama, has previously said he's not certain if rumors that the
two men were lovers are true.
At the film's premiere, he told E!
Online that Hoover's sexual orientation remained a mystery to
him.
“To tell you the truth, I don't have
the answer to that question and I don't think there's anyone still
alive who really does,” he answered.
“If you talk to the Federal Bureau of
Investigation, there are staunch believers that these two men carried
out a very professional relationship and they were sort of
inseparable pals,” DiCaprio stated, referring to Tolson.
“These two men went on every vacation
together. They ate breakfast, lunch and dinner together. They went
to work together. They were together for 50 years. They lived
together. They were buried together. They never had a family. They
never had a girlfriend. You know, put it together in your mind …,”
he added.
In an interview with
Moviefone.com,
Hammer says a professional researcher he hired unearthed photographs
of a sleeping Tolson taken by Hoover.
And in remarks with New
York Magazine, he talks about filming a kissing scene with
DiCaprio.
“It just felt like kissing,” he
said. “I also had to shoot a machine gun in the movie, but nobody
asks about that.”
